The enmity and rivalry between Mike Mutebi and Sam Ssimbwa is well-known and stretches far back to their early coaching careers, though the real battles in the upcoming game will take place at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Friday.
KCCA FC host Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club on Friday with both tacticians facing conundrums as to how to halt their rivals’ key attacking threats, with strikers Steven Mukwala, Sam Ssenyonjo and Brian Ahebwa in free-scoring form for their respective sides.

Saidi Kyeyune, Joachim Ojera and Keziron Kizito have also impressed from midfield this season and will potentially be more difficult to pick up given the freedom they operate with, offering additional headaches for both Mike Hillary Mutebi and Sam Ssimbwa.
The Kasasiro boys head into this fixture coming off the back of a 2-1 loss to SC Villa whilst the tax collectors head into this encounter after a 2-0 victory over BUL fc in their previous StarTimes Uganda Premier league game and with just two points separating the two giant sides, the race for this season’s StarTimes Uganda Premier League triumph adds extra spice to the encounter.
KEY BATTLES AS MUTEBI AND SSIMBWA RENEW RIVALRY
1.DUELS TO BE DECIDED
Needless to say, all the 22 players will have their say in the fixture, and both camps will claim to hold superiority in different regions of the field, while there are other matchups which will be dictated by some difficult tactical decisions from both bosses.
KCCA have the more experienced and impressive goalkeeper in captain Charles Lukwago while the tax collectors boast a more settled centre-back pairing comprised of powerful Paul Patrick Mbowa and Benjamin Nyakonjo whilst Hudu Mukikyi returns.
The battle for control of the middle of the park is sure to be key, including one particular matchup which we’ll examine shortly, while it remains to be seen who will operate from KCCA’s right flank and URA’s left flank given recent rotation in those roles.
Hebert Achai has previously struggled with defensive duties on the left, despite possessing the ability to be a match-winner,he is likely to have his hands full in keeping track of pacey URA winger Joachim Ojera , leaving Mutebi with a tough call on that flank and if not properly addressed it might prove to be No.1 battle to decide the match in URA’s favour, with KCCA’s midfielder-turned-full-back expected to struggle.
2.SAIDI KYEYUNE VS ASHRAF MUGUME
In an interesting midfield clash between two exciting midfielders, KCCA’s Mugume will need a strong showing on home turf to keep URA FC’s playmaker Saidi Kyeyune out of the action.
While Mugume has certainly impressed since being handed his chance, he’s set to face a 90-minute test to prove he is the real deal.Kyeyune has proven himself as a man for the big occasion for URA FC, and limiting his influence will go a long way to stopping them.
This therefore means Mugume will have the tough task of containing Kyeyune’s movement and if he can hold off the URA FC man, KCCA can have one hand onto the three points and failure to do so, his side will be far away from the three points.
3.MUKWALA STEVEN vs DENNIS IGUMA
When it comes to playing as a lone frontman, some strikers flourish, while others need an aide. URA’s talisman Mukwala falls into the former of those two categories.
Mukwala has been one of the biggest revelations in Uganda football since last season, going from squad player at Vipers to the Premier League’s leading scorer in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League while on loan at Maroons fc.
The former Vipers forward has been unstoppable for the tax collectors since making his debut for the Ssimbwa coached side versus Mbarara City ,and has scored 3 goals already in his first four StarTimes Uganda Premier League games in URA colours all coming from Joachim Ojera’s deliveries.
Mukwala’s pace and ability to drift inwards from both the left and right flank will see him go head to head with experienced Dennis Iguma. This could potentially be the clash of the match.
Iguma will have a lot on his plate on Friday and if he fails to deal with Mukwala’s runs, KCCA FC will just have to say goodbye to their hopes of getting the three points.

4.BRIAN AHEBWA vs BENJAMIN NYAKONJO
Former Mbarara City sharpshooter Brian Ahebwa has already made a significant impact since arriving for free in the summer, netting six league goals in just four league appearances in KCCA FC colours.
The joint StarTimes Uganda Premier League’s leading goalscorer (with Police’s Ben Ochen) together with his partner in crime Sam Ssenyonjo, meet the division’s second stingiest defence featuring an ever present and dependable Benjamin Nyakonjo.
Nyakonjo’s physical presence is key to bringing his team-mates into play more so when dealing with aerial balls, winning flick-ons and offering a threat from set pieces which has even seen him register his name on the score sheet
Both Ahebwa and Nyakonjo have made big differences at their respective ends of the pitch in new this season, and the battle between free scoring Ahebwa and the powerful centre back could be key to where bragging rights will end up come Friday evening.
