Two back to back 1-0 defeats in Soroti and Masindi versus Olila HS WFC and Makerere University WFC on Matchday one and Match day two respectively saw Lady Doves emerge as the laughing stock of the 2022-23 FUFA Women Super League campaign following the earlier departure of a couple of key players in Fazila Ikwaput & Riticia Nabbosa among others.
After two consecutive defeats in the first two opening Match days of 2022/23 Fufa Women Super League campaign , eyes glanced to Lady Doves’ October fixture list and a sense of dread creeped in.
Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC at home, Rines SS WFC away, Asubo Gafford Ladies FC back at Katushabe Grounds, then She Corporate FC away from home – and fear was that things could get ugly but the Masindi based club managed to win 3 out of the 4 games played and completed the month unbeaten.
But a 2-0 triumph at home over Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC thanks to Resty Kobusobozi and Dorcus Kwikiriza’s strikes eight days after a home defeat to Makerere university WFC brought life to the Masindi based club.
The Rajab Buyinza coached side followed up that impressive win with two consecutive thumping victories over Rines SS WFC (5-0) & Asubo Gafford Ladies FC (3-0)
Forward Norah Alupo netted four goals versus Rines SS WFC while Rashida Nankya scored the other goal. In the same line Olivia Babirye, Nyandera Lydia and Alupo Norah scored for Doves as they put three past Asubo Gafford Ladies FC.
Meanwhile, the Masindi based club managed to get a point away from home against defending champions She Corporate FC after Jaonitah Ainembabazi’s strike cancelled out Nandera Everline’s early goal for Doves at the Mubs Arena in their last league outing to go unbeaten in October.
Despite Doves’ good run of form, they face their toughest test of the season on Sunday when they welcome table leaders Kampala Queens who have enjoyed a successful start to the 2022-23 FUFA Women Super League season after winning all six of their fixtures so far.
The other games to be played on Sunday will see Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC host struggling defending champions She Corporate FC at Kawempe Muslim playground while Rines SS WFC, fresh from registering their first victory of the season (2-1 vs Makerere University) will host Asubo Gafford Ladies FC at Kabaka Kyabagu stadium in Wakiso.
Meanwhile, Saturday will see Uganda Martyrs who picked a 4-1 deserved victory over UCU Lady Cardinals travel to Soroti to face hosts Olila HS WFC.
Elsewhere, Makerere University WFC will travel to Mukono to face hosts UCU Lady Cardinals FC
