KCCA PS – Kamwokya wins Father Grimes Chess Championship, Sir Apollo Kaggwa schools finish third | Sbk Sports Mail

KCCA PS – Kamwokya are the 2023 winners of Father Grimes National Primary Schools Chess Championship boys category.
To emerge victorious, the Kamwokya based school beat Mustard Seed to the boy’s trophy by just a tiebreaker in the Open category.
This came after both sides won 6 and drew twice after the eight rounds played basing on the Swiss format of play, finishing with 18 points each but KCCA won the tiebreaker, Sir Apollo Kaggwa finished third in this year’s edition of the championship where each school was allowed to submit a maximum of four players and one substitute, led by a head of delegation (teacher or a coach)
The girls category was won by Peak PS who were represented by some of the best youngsters in the country while St. Theresa Namagunga PS Team A and Team B finished second and third respectively.
Meanwhile, in the secondary section of the Father Grimes National Schools Chess Championship, Kiira College Butiki emerged winners of the boys category after overcoming St. Henry’s College Kitovu in the final round of the competition.
Ntare School and Kyadondo finished second and third respectively whilst Ndejje SS and Jinja College Mwiri completed the top five while defending champions Kings College Budo came in at a lowly 20th position.
In the individual show, Elvis Mugisha from Mount Olives emerged as the best player on board one with an unbeaten 8 points.
For board two, Pius Mugisha from Wampewo owned it winning seven out of eight while Shabib Mohammed from Bukedea SS bossed board 3 with a sweep.
The final board, which is fourth, was won by Freddy Mugisha from Kisubi High School who also won all his games.
