The round of 16 at the 2023 USSSA national Boys football championship in Fortportal City officially came to an end and just eight teams remain in the running to bring home the tournament’s coveted trophy.Next up: the quarterfinals as the road to the final takes shape

Record winners Kibuli SS, St. Henry’s College Kitovu (SHACK) and defending champions St. Mary’s SS Kitende who are title favorites stormed the quarterfinals and showed their intentions with commanding results.

To achieve the feat, Kibuli SS, St. Henry’s College Kitovu and St. Mary’s SS Kitende registered round of 16 victories over Nkoma SS, London College Nansana and Bishop Negri respectively.

The defending champions St. Mary’s SS Kitende registered a 6-0 victory over Bishop Negri in the round of 16 duel that kicked off at 1:00pm at Canon Apollo Core PTC Playground.

On the other hand, record winners and last year’s semi-finalists Kibuli SS edged Nkoma SS (4-1) whilst high-flying St. Henry’s College Kitovu dispatched London College Nansana (4-1) to book their quarter-final slot.

In the other round of 16 games played,Wakiso based Standard High School Zana and Royal Giants High School from Mityana overcame Kawempe Muslim SS (5-4) and Jinja Progressive Academy (3-1) on spot kicks following a goalless and one all draw after normal time in their quarter-final duels respectively.

Elsewhere, Buddo SS registered a 3-0 victory over Kigumba Royal College while Amus College School defeated Mukono Kings High School (2-1) to book a quarter-final berth in the ongoing championship.

Meanwhile, hosts West Ville stormed the quarterfinals after a 5-4 shout out victory over St. Joseph College Layibi following a goalless draw after normal time.
