Throughout their remarkable journey, Welden High School displayed an incredible offensive prowess, scoring a total of 26 goals while conceding just once in 10 matches. This impressive feat is a testament to the talent and determination of the players, as well as the meticulous coaching and strategic planning behind the scenes.
The journey to glory began in the Mbarara City Zone C group stages, where Welden High School showcased their prowess on the pitch. They kicked off their campaign with a convincing 2-0 victory over Mbarara City S.S, setting the tone for their dominant performance. This momentum carried through as they swept aside Kitagata Vocational SS with a staggering 6-0 win, followed by another impressive 2-0 triumph against St Patrick S.S, securing their spot in the semi-finals.
In a semi-final clash against Unique High School, Welden High School showcased their unwavering determination for victory, delivering a commanding 4-0 win to secure their spot in the finals. The stage was thus set for a thrilling showdown as they faced off against St. Peter’s SS. With precision and prowess, Welden High School once again demonstrated their superiority, sealing a decisive 2-0 victory and clinching the championship title for Mbarara City Zone C.
Undeterred by their success in the city zone, Welden High School turned their focus to the Mbarara District Championships, where they faced formidable opponents from across the region. In the group stages, they showcased their resilience with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Mbarara SS, followed by a dominant 5-0 victory over Vienna High School and a narrow 1-0 win against Nyamitanga S.S, securing their place in the semi-finals.
In the semi-final encounter against Mbarara High School, Welden High School once again proved their mettle with a gritty 1-0 victory, setting the stage for a showdown in the finals. With the championship on the line, they delivered a stellar performance against Nyamitanga S.S, emerging triumphant with a commanding 3-0 win to claim the title of Mbarara District Football Champions.
At the helm of the team stands the esteemed head coach, Jajja Noah Mugerwa, whose tactical brilliance and leadership have been instrumental in guiding Welden High School to victory. Mugerwa’s back-room staff, including first assistant Gaddafi Kawalya, second assistant Faizal Ssempijja, and fitness coach Muzafaru Hassan, have played crucial roles in nurturing the team’s talent and ensuring peak performance on the pitch.
Behind every successful team is a dedicated administrative wing, and Welden High School is no exception. Led by team president Yasin Mugabe, alongside team manager Zam Mugabe, team doctor Dr. Andrew, technical director Badru, and games teacher Newton, the administrative staff provide unwavering support and guidance to the players, both on and off the field.
With their triumphant victories in the city zone and district championships, Welden High School has now set their sights on the next challenge: representing Mbarara City at the Western Uganda regionals. Set to be hosted in Ibanda district in the coming weeks, the team is poised to showcase their talent and determination on a larger stage, as they continue their quest for football glory.
