In a thrilling encounter at Masindi Municipal Stadium, Vipers Sports Club secured a pivotal 2-0 triumph over Kitara FC, propelling them to the helm of the league table. The clash, brimming with anticipation, saw Vipers dominate the proceedings, overcoming Kitara’s valiant efforts.
The deadlock was broken in the 19th minute when a stroke of misfortune befell Kitara’s Donato Okello, who inadvertently redirected the ball into his own net after goalkeeper Chris Kusiima parried away Yunus Sentamu’s initial attempt. This own goal provided Vipers with the early advantage, setting the tone for the encounter.
Despite Kitara’s resilience, epitomized by Brian Aheebwa’s close header in the 77th minute, which rattled the crossbar, Vipers maintained their defensive composure. The Venoms’ persistence paid off in the dying moments of the match, as Nigerian forward Abubaker Lawal, who replaced Milton Kariisa, unleashed a thunderous strike into the net in the 86th minute. This well-executed effort, orchestrated through a seamless collaboration between Karim Watambala and Erick Kambale, solidified Vipers’ supremacy.
With this crucial victory, Vipers SC now ascends to the top of the table with 45 points, edging past Kitara FC by a narrow margin. The win not only underscores Vipers’ prowess but also highlights their resilience and determination to clinch the coveted title.
Looking ahead, Vipers will seek to maintain their momentum as they prepare to face Maroons in their upcoming fixture at Kitende on Tuesday, April 23. Meanwhile, Kitara will aim to rebound from this setback when they clash with Express FC at Wankulukuku on Wednesday, April 24.
