By Brian Sentuuya📝 || In a groundbreaking development for Ugandan football, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has received approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for a Test Match at Namboole Stadium. This marks the final phase of reopening for the iconic venue, signaling an exciting chapter for Ugandans passionate about the beautiful game.
The approval from CAF comes after extensive renovations carried out by the UPDF Engineering Brigade, funded by a government allocation of Sh97 billion since 2022. Namboole Stadium, which had been out of commission since 2020 due to substandard conditions, has undergone a remarkable transformation, thanks to these revitalization efforts.
FUFA has seized this opportunity to designate two Uganda Premier League (UPL) fixtures for this significant milestone. On Wednesday, May 1, football fans will witness KCCA FC take on SC Villa in the first match, followed by BUL FC facing off against SC Villa in the second fixture.
These test matches hold immense importance as they not only mark the reopening of Namboole Stadium but also provide CAF with valuable insight into the progress of the ongoing renovation works. The feedback gathered from these matches will be crucial in determining whether the stadium is ready to host international games in the near future.
Football enthusiasts can expect a day filled with excitement and anticipation as Namboole Stadium comes alive with the energy of UPL football. With both matches scheduled to be played on the same day, fans will be treated to a double dose of top-tier football action in the heart of Kampala.
Admission prices for these historic test games have been set at 10,000 Ugandan Shillings for general seating and 50,000 Ugandan Shillings for VIP access, ensuring that fans from all walks of life can experience the thrill of live football at one of Uganda’s most iconic stadiums.
As preparations intensify for the test matches, FUFA officials, participating teams, and stadium authorities are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring a seamless experience for all stakeholders. From pitch maintenance to crowd management, every aspect of the event is being meticulously planned to ensure its success.
With the countdown to kickoff underway, excitement is building across the nation as football enthusiasts eagerly anticipate witnessing history in the making at Namboole Stadium. As the final phase of reopening unfolds, Ugandans can look forward to a bright future filled with unforgettable football moments at this iconic venue.
