By Brian Sentuuya || The rugby community is abuzz with anticipation as the upcoming relegation playoffs draw near, bringing forth a fierce battle among four teams vying to secure their coveted spots in the topflight. Among the contenders are Eagles Rugby Club, Rams RUFC, Warriors Rugby, and Impis Rugby Club.
As the countdown begins to the much-anticipated playoffs, rugby enthusiasts eagerly await the clash of titans set to unfold on the field. With each team determined by ranking, the stage is set for a gripping saga, with the bottom four teams slated to engage in a high-stakes showdown over the course of a home and away format.
In the opening fixtures, Rams and Warriors gear up for what promises to be an epic confrontation, while Impis and Eagles Rugby Club prepare for their intense battle. With pride, prestige, and survival hanging in the balance, these encounters are poised to deliver riveting rugby action that will keep fans on the edge of their seats.
Impis Rugby Club boasts an illustrious record, having spent an impressive 30 seasons in the topflight, a distinction surpassed only by KOBs and Heathens. However, they face the daunting task of evading their fourth relegation in history, having previously experienced demotion in 2013, 2014/15, and 2017/18. Remarkably, they remain the only former League winners to have encountered relegation.
Meanwhile, Rams earned promotion to the topflight for the 2015/16 season and have since solidified their position as stalwarts of top-flight rugby. Warriors Rugby carries a proud legacy, having participated in the topflight for 12 of the past 13 seasons, with a solitary absence in 2023 following their relegation.
With the possibility of Makerere Rugby Grounds witnessing its first season without topflight rugby since 2013/2014 if both Rams and Impis face relegation, the stakes have never been higher. For Eagles Rugby Club, who have tasted only one season of topflight rugby, and Warriors, who endured the 2023 season in the Central League, the playoffs present a crucial opportunity to assert their dominance.
As tension mounts and preparations intensify, fans eagerly await the outcome of the relegation playoffs, anticipating intense clashes and gripping moments that will undoubtedly define the future of rugby on the field.
