By Brian Sentuuya || In a thrilling display of football prowess, Kawempe Muslim SS and Rines Secondary School have secured their spots in the final of the 2024 Fresh Dairy USSSA National Girls’ Football Championship. The semifinal matches, held at Standard High School Zzana – Ndejje Campus on Thursday, 20th June 2024, saw both teams overcoming formidable opponents to set the stage for an exciting final.
Rines Secondary School, under the guidance of Coach Bright Nyanzi, delivered an impressive performance against defending champions Amus College School. The 2-0 victory was a testament to their tactical acumen and sheer determination. Rines, who were last year’s losing semifinalists and this year’s Wakiso District runners-up, showcased their intent early on.
The match’s first goal came in the 18th minute from a stunning header by Rinah Ayerango. Her exceptional aerial ability and positioning were evident as she met a well-placed cross, leaving the Amus defense in disarray. This early goal set the tone for Rines, putting immense pressure on Amus College.
Throughout the first half, Rines maintained their dominance, with their forwards relentlessly attacking and their midfield providing dynamic support. Amus College struggled to match the pace, finding themselves on the back foot and unable to maintain possession or penetrate Rines’ defense effectively.
Amus College had a brief moment of hope in the 34th minute when Edinah Wandera skillfully navigated through Rines’ defense. Her pass to Edna Wanda created a promising chance, but Rines’ goalkeeper made a crucial save, preserving their lead and highlighting the defensive resilience of the team.
The second half continued with Rines asserting their superiority. Ayerango, once again pivotal, assisted Halima Mupyanga in the 50th minute with a perfect cross. Mupyanga’s header doubled the lead, cementing Rines’ control over the match and extinguishing Amus College’s comeback hopes.
Rines’ strategic management of the game in the latter stages ensured their victory. Their defensive discipline and tactical efficiency stifled Amus College’s offensive attempts, securing their place in the final with a commanding 2-0 win.
In the other semifinal, the 2023 FEASSSA champions Kawempe Muslim SS, led by Coach Moses Nkaata, edged out St. Noa Girls School Zana with a narrow 1-0 victory. The match, characterized by intense competition, saw Hadijah Babirye’s 31st-minute header proving decisive. Babirye, a former Kayindu Secondary School student, capitalized on a precise free-kick delivery from captain Sharifah Nakimera, ensuring Kawempe’s progression to the final.
Despite St. Noa’s efforts, which included intricate passes and swift attacks from players like Sylvia Kabeene and Sumaiyah Nalumu, Kawempe’s defense remained impenetrable. St. Noa’s reliance on Nalumu’s crosses failed to yield results as Kawempe’s defensive line stood firm.
This victory sets up a highly anticipated final between Kawempe Muslim SS and Rines Secondary School, scheduled for tomorrow at 2:00 pm EAT at Standard High School Zzana – Ndejje Campus. Both teams have shown remarkable skill and determination, promising an electrifying showdown.
In the lead-up to the final, St. Noa Girls School Zana will face Amus College in the third-place playoff at 10:00 am. This match will be a chance for both teams to redeem themselves and secure a respectable finish in the tournament.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the 2024 FEASSSA Games, co-hosted by Amus College and Bukedea Comprehensive. Four schools, including the defending champions Kawempe Muslim SS, are guaranteed slots in this prestigious event. The other representatives include the hosts Amus College and Bukedea Comprehensive.
As the championship reaches its climax, the anticipation and excitement among the teams and supporters are palpable. The final match between Kawempe Muslim SS and Rines Secondary School is set to be a memorable encounter, showcasing the best of Ugandan girls’ football.
