By Brian Sentuuya || In a strategic move aimed at strengthening their attacking lineup, six-time Uganda Premier League champions Vipers Sports Club have proudly announced the signing of promising striker Kenneth Kimera. Kimera, who showcased his talents with Wakiso Giants FC last season, has committed to a three-year contract with the Venoms, which extends until the end of the 2026/27 season, with an option for a further extension.
The announcement of Kimera’s acquisition marks the third major signing for the 2022/23 league champions. The Venoms have already bolstered their squad with the additions of left-back Derrick Ndahiro and Angolan forward Pedro Honjo, popularly known as Sukuya. Kimera’s arrival is expected to add significant firepower to Vipers’ already impressive attacking roster. This comes alongside the recent appointment of new head coach Nikola Kavazovic, unveiled on Wednesday, who is expected to steer the team towards greater heights.
Kenneth Kimera’s previous season with Wakiso Giants was nothing short of spectacular. The young striker, in his debut season in the topflight league, managed to score an impressive 10 goals in 27 appearances. His remarkable performance on the field quickly earned him recognition as one of the standout youngsters in the Uganda Premier League, drawing the attention of top clubs, including Vipers SC.
Before his professional breakthrough, Kimera honed his skills at Kibuli SS, where he emerged as the top scorer in the 2023 UMEA Solidarity games held at Kawanda, netting nine goals. His early promise and goal-scoring prowess were further highlighted during his participation in the Buganda Masaza Cup, where he represented Gomba in 2023 after transferring from Kyadondo.
Kimera’s journey to the top tier of Ugandan football began with his time at Manyangwa FC, a Fufa Regional League side. His impressive performances at various levels have consistently showcased his talent and determination, paving the way for his rise to prominence in the Uganda Premier League.
Kimera joins an attacking lineup that includes established stars such as Yunus Sentamu, Fumador Asiwome, Fazil Tumwine, Abdul Nsereko, and Eric Kenzo Kambale. His inclusion is expected to create healthy competition for starting spots and provide the team with additional tactical options, enhancing the overall squad depth and versatility.
In the preceding campaign, Vipers did not secure a single trophy, finishing third in the League and reaching the quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup. The club’s management and fans are hopeful that the new signings, including Kimera, will bring renewed energy and success to the team in the upcoming season.
The club’s ambition is clear: to reclaim their dominance in the Uganda Premier League and make a significant impact in other competitions. With Kenneth Kimera’s proven goal-scoring abilities and the strategic acquisitions of other key players, Vipers SC are poised for a promising and potentially triumphant season.
