Lugazi FC has officially announced the signing of attacking midfielder Hussein Ssenoga from Buganda regional league side Free Stars FC. The highly anticipated transfer brings renewed hope to the Uganda Premier League side as they fight to secure their top-flight status.
Ssenoga, who has signed a one-year contract, expressed his excitement about joining the Lugazi-based team. “I feel really excited and grateful to have joined this club,” Ssenoga stated. “I have worked really hard in my career to be here and I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch with this team.” He is expected to begin training with his new teammates immediately.
The 26-year-old midfielder began his football journey with Free Stars FC in 2011. As a teenager, his exceptional skills were evident when he scored six goals and provided two assists in 28 appearances during his debut season in the Buganda regional league. This impressive start earned him the youngest player of the season award, laying the foundation for a promising career.
In 2014, Ssenoga took a significant step forward, joining The Saints Football Club in the FUFA Juniors League. His talent continued to blossom, catching the attention of Hearts Kyebando United FC. Playing in the Kampala regional league, Ssenoga’s performances stood out, earning him the title of Kyebando United’s most influential player at the end of the season.
Ssenoga made a remarkable return to Free Stars in 2017, where he solidified his reputation as a key player for the Mukono-based side. During this stint, he was crowned the team’s player of the season twice, in 2019 and 2020, thanks to his consistent performances and leadership on the field.
His exceptional form earned him a move to Express FC in 2022, where he played a pivotal role for the Red Eagles in the Uganda Premier League. After two successful seasons, he returned to Free Stars at the beginning of the 2024 season, determined to continue his legacy.
Ssenoga’s recent performances in the Buganda regional league have been nothing short of spectacular. In just nine first-round games for Free Stars, he contributed nine goals, comprising five goals and four assists. His creativity and ability to find the back of the net make him a vital addition to Lugazi FC’s attacking arsenal.
Lugazi FC, currently sitting in 13th place on the 16-team Uganda Premier League table, struggled in the first round of the 2024/2025 season. With 14 points from 15 games, they are precariously positioned just two points above Wakiso Giants, four points ahead of Soltilo Bright Stars FC, and five points above bottom-placed Mbale Heroes FC.
The arrival of Ssenoga is expected to inject much-needed creativity and attacking impetus into Lugazi’s midfield. The team has struggled to find consistency in their performances, and Ssenoga’s ability to both score and assist will be instrumental in their quest for survival.
Ssenoga’s versatility and ability to adapt to different playing styles are attributes that will undoubtedly benefit Lugazi FC. His past experiences with various clubs, from regional leagues to the premier league, have honed his skills and prepared him for the challenges ahead.
For Ssenoga, the move to Lugazi represents another opportunity to showcase his talent at the highest level. His journey from regional leagues to the premier league highlights his determination and resilience, qualities that will be invaluable to his new club.
The attacking midfielder’s signing has already generated excitement among Lugazi FC fans. Many believe that his presence in the team will significantly enhance their attacking options and provide the spark needed to climb up the league table.
As Lugazi FC prepares for the second round of the season, all eyes will be on Ssenoga to see how quickly he adapts to his new environment. With his track record of delivering under pressure, there is optimism that he will rise to the occasion.
The second round of the Uganda Premier League promises to be a thrilling contest, with Lugazi FC determined to fight for their survival. The addition of Ssenoga could be the turning point in their season, giving them the edge they need to stay in the league.
For now, Lugazi FC fans can look forward to seeing their new signing in action, as the club continues to build towards a brighter future. Ssenoga’s journey with Lugazi FC is just beginning, and the stakes couldn’t be higher.
Will Ssenoga’s arrival mark the turning point in Lugazi FC’s season? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain—his addition has given the club a fighting chance.
