The 2022 End of year Women Beach Soccer Festival has kicked off today at Mutoola Resort Beach in Mukono with eight exciting fixtures on the card.
Eight teams reported for this year’s edition of the competition organised by the Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA) together with the Uganda Women Football Association (UWFA) in a bid to promote and develop Women beach soccer in Uganda and the participating teams were drawn into two different groups of four teams each.
Group A has defending champions and winners of the inaugural edition Uganda Martyrs, Kampala Junior Team (KJT), Mpata Ladies and Talented Ladies while last year’s first runners up – Nansana Ladies are in group B that also includes Nile Queens, Makindye Bees and Gomba Ladies.

OPENING RESULTS :
A total of 62 goals were scored on match day one of this year’s edition of the Women Beach Soccer festival and as expected, there was an abundance of drama, thrills as well as the requisite shocks and disappointments over the eight games played.
The first game of the day saw defending champions Uganda Martyrs collect their first win of the tournament with a 5-1 confortable victory over Kampala Junior Team (KJT)
Last edition’s Mvp and Top-scorer Catherine Nagadya netted four goals for the Lubaga based club while Brenda Munyana added the other goal. Meanwhile, Reticia Nakyeyune netted the only goal for KJT.
Meanwhile, last edition’s first runners up Nansana Ladies registered a 5-2 victory over Makindye Bees in Group B opening fixture.
Cissy Nantongo netted a hattrick for the Nansana based Ladies while Justin Najjuko added the other goals. On the other hand, Samalie Nakachwa and Hasifah Nassuna were on target for Makindye Bees.

Elsewhere, Gomba Ladies registered a statement victory (8-3) over Nile Queens in the third tie of the day at Mutoola Resort Beach.
Shamsa Najjuma netted five times for Gomba Ladies, Latifa Nakasi netted a brace and Sumaiya Nalumu added the other goal. On the other hand, Sharot Namugenyi, Judith Mauwa and Sumaiya Namugalo scored for the Nile Queens.
The fourth game of the day saw Mpata Ladies collect their first win of the tournament with a 5-1 confortable victory over Talented ladies.
Susan Nalukoda netted a hattrick for Mpata Ladies while Hawa Watulo and Aziza Amoding added the other goals . Meanwhile, Leticia Nanziri netted the only goal for Talented Ladies.
In the fifth match of the day, Nansana Ladies thumped Nile Queens (6-1) , handing them their second defeat on Matchday one following their earlier 8-3 loss to Gomba Ladies in the third match of the day.
Justin Najjuko (X3) , Yudaya Nalubega (X2) and Rebecca Nakasato (X1) were on target for Nansana Ladies while Gloria Mutesi scored the only goal for the struggling Nile Queens.
In the sixth game of the day, defending champions Uganda Martyrs continued their incredible run with a 8-0 victory over struggling and winless Talented Ladies.
Catherine Nagadya netted a hattrick to take her tally to seven goals in two matches while Brenda Munyana (X1), Fatuma Nakasumba (X3) and Esther Namusoke (X1) added the other goals.
The second last game of the day at Mutoola Resort Beach saw winless Kampala Junior Team (by then) fighting it out with Mpata Ladies.
Mpata Ladies were hoping to build on their 5-1 victory over Talented Ladies in their first group game but Kampala Junior Team had other plans following a 5-1 defeat in their opening match at the hands of high-flying Uganda Martyrs.
Leticia Nakyeyune scored five times to help Kampala Junior Team overcome Mpata Ladies (5-4) while Hawa Watulo (X1), Aziza Amoding (X1) and Susan Nalukoda (X2) netted for Mpata Ladies.
In what was an absolutely enthralling final match of the day at Mutoola Resort Beach , Makindye Bees and Gomba Ladies shared spoils following a 4-4 stalemate.
Ashiat Nalugwa and Hasifah Nassuna netted a brace each for Makindye Bees while Sumaiya Nalumu (X1) , Shamusa Najjuma (X2) and Ruth Kobusingye (X1) scored for Gomba Ladies.
The group stage matches will continue on Saturday , 31st December 2022 and winners of groups – A and B will match the second placed team in the opposite group at the semi finals after successful completion of all group stage matches.
For starters, on 6th December 2021, the Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA) and Uganda Women Football Association (UWFA) announced that they had joined hands in order to promote and develop Women beach soccer in Uganda.
The New Memorandum of Understanding between the two associations gave Uganda Women Football Association (UWFA) the mandate to run Women beach soccer competitions effective 2021-2022 season under close supervision of the Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA).
